This was a retrofit fit green roof project for a residence that had originally been constructed with a green roof in 1962 and was accordingly featured in LIFE magazine. 3 years later, however, the green roof was removed due to water damage. In 2007, 40 years after the original roof was built, Hyphae’s Brent Bucknum, while working for another firm, consulted with the client to assess the building for structural and water damage, consulted on replacement waterproof membranes and design/built the new living roof, which utilizes all native plant species, local to the area, to provide butterfly habitat and blend seamlessly with the surroundings.
